Blog 6 REVISED

There are several themes present in the South Park episode "Death." One was TV censorship. The parents felt like the show 'Terrence and Phillip' was very inappropriate for their children's viewing so they boycotted the show and got it taken off. Another theme is the euthanasia of elder people if they want it. However, all adults avoided this subject when the kids approached them asking questions.  Many parents today feel that they are protecting their children by not talking about controversial things. However, it is my personal opinion that not talking to them about it only makes them more curious and makes them want to go find the answers out for themselves. In the episode, wen the parents were all gone protesting the TV show, they left their kids unattended at home. They even talked about doing drugs because they didn't know what else to do. Todays young generation I feel has more alcohol and drug use than previous ones. My friend's little brother is in 5th grade and he tells of kids skipping school to smoke pot and drink. Even worse, many have been caught doing that at school.

Another theme is hypocrisy. In the show 'Terrence and Phillip', the character farted on each other and the parents of South Park were just utterly disgusted, however when it happened in real life when many parents came down with diarrhea, they all thought it was funny. Another example of hypocrisy is the topic of assisted suicide. No adult would talk or tell about their opinions on it, leaving the children very curious. When protesting the TV show, the parents started to sling shot themselves against the building, killing themselves. Hypocrisy is a real issue these days. Parents tell their kids to do or not do something, yet they do the opposite. This confuses kids who are in the stages growing up, kids will often do what they see, not what they're told.
