When I think of gender roles the first thing that comes to mind as to how it is one sided is the dr pepper commercial where there is a man out in the middle of the forrest and he is supposed to symbolize manhood. This is depicted through his perfectly groomed, beard his six pack and my personal favorite, his tendency to eat tree bark. The commercial uses the idea that if you're a man youre going to drink dr pepper. One current event that follows this theme is the rise of feminism. Very much like how men are expected to be this unique individual who is self supporting, feminism actually teaches women to do this same thing. So instead of meeting men halfway they make the same mistake that men have been making for a long time. The world that the man from the ted talk proposed where men and women put their gender aside to build a team of strong people seems to be the middle ground between men and women and we should, as he said, use this as a model for our children.
