The main issue I saw in all these videos we watched in class is the stereotyping of gender roles. Men and women are always expected to be some certain way. Men as they grow up are always told not to be afraid of anything, and be a man! For women, its okay if they're sensitive and have emotions, but for men that's not acceptable. Growing up, little girls are expected to play with dolls, dress up, and have tea parties. Just like little boys are expected to play with action figures and race cars. These are all roles of gender that are expected of everyone, but no one realizes how much it can effect an individual. It's the way society portrays men and women to be to live up to that expectation. An example, is a video I watched called "Reinforcing Gender Stereotypes Through Advertising" which shows videos of advertisements of men and women and how they are expected to live up to in society. It's a common issue now of the way the media is portraying gender roles, because the whole point of being yourself as an individual is all taken back when you see certain commercials like that or even being raised to be that way. Growing up and being raised to be a certain way can definitely take a toll on that individual, and it's even harder to be yourself. The whole point is to stop making these gender roles make people believe they have to be that way. Everyone should be different and the person they want to be.
