A present day issue that is
related to Chaplin's speech is equality and tolerance. Today in day there isn't
a wide acceptance towards homosexual relationships. In some states they aren't
able to get married and are made to hide in the shadows. Like the speech said
towards the end "Let us fight to free the world
- to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and
intolerance," we need to fight to free these people who are pretty much
enslaved. We need to stop the hate and intolerance because in the end of the
day they are humans just like everyone and have feelings like anyone else. This is not an issue we shouldn't just ignore like Chaplin says we have to do something about and no one should be degraded for who they are. A modern song that also addresses this issue is the song "Same Love" Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Mary Lambert which also talks about the taboo that being "gay" is given and how no one should change who they are.
