Blog Post #5

The present day issue that I will be focusing on in relation to Chaplin's speech is the usage of technology. As I look around in public places, all you see are the majority of people on there phones even when they are with friends and aren't even talking to one another. Over the years technology has greatly benefited our society in many ways but has also harmed us, due to the fact that a lot of people can't stop from using technology. Many people are eager to always buy the next big thing if it's either the latest phone, flat screen t.v, or car. Where people blindly buy whatever new product of the week is marketed to them. Taken directly from Chaplin's speech was a quote stating that "We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in." "Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want." Which still has continued to this day even from the 1940s, and I believe is actually getting worse. Meaning that something has to happen in our society in order for us to change the way we live. But with that being said I believe that technology has become so ingrained in our lives, and is one of the main moneymakers for businesses. That it will be very difficult for us to move away from.
