A present day issue that can be related to the theme equality and tolerance is racism within the media. When I say the media I mean shows like fashion police. Just the other day one of the host made a comment about an African-Americans artists hair saying that it probably smelled like weed just because she had locs. However, when there are Caucasians with the exact same hair style the stereotype doesn't apply to them and the look is "trendy". I believe that the rules should apply to any and every race why does the hair have to have two different stand points based on the race sporting it?
Another thing that relates to this is the song "I am not my hair" by India Arie in the song she says "I am not my hair, I am not this skin, I am the soul that lives within." What she means by that is don't judge a book by its cover, everyone deserves an equal chance regardless of how they look and I agree with her. Some of the greatest books may have dingy covers.
