In this episode of South Park the boys watch a TV show they
think is funny. Once their parents find out they are watching this
“inappropriate” TV show they take action to get it off of the air because they
believe it has a negative influence on their children. What the parents don’t
realize is their actions are having an even more negative effect on their
children. There was a theme that
sometimes parents can do more harm trying to protect their children. When
parents believe that things are bad or have negative influences on their
children, their actions to get rid of those bad influence can have an even more
damaging effect. They went on strike to get the TV show off of the air. While doing
so they left their children alone at home. While alone the boys are
dealing with a suicidal grandpa and are even running away from death. When the
boys call their parents for help their parents completely ignore them. Then Kyle
says, "I think that parents only get so offended by television because
they rely on it as a babysitter and the sole educator of their kids." I
see a lot of truth in this quote today. Our generation realis heavily on
technology because it makes our lives easier. When parents get tired of dealing
with their children they can distract them with TV, hence a babysitter. When parents
neglect their children by letting them watch TV, then take TV away from them
and still neglect them and their needs. That’s when children start to pick up
bad habits. For example at the end of the episode when there is nothing for
them to do they say, “what should we do now? Let’s do coke my uncle said it’s
really cool.” Sometimes parents do more harm trying to protect their children. Instead of talking and explaining to their children why it is bad. They go straight to the source neglecting their children when the children need them most.
