In the south park episode of 'Death', the director portrays the theme of television censorship. They talk about how the show 'Terrence and Phillip' reveals obscene language and disturbing graphics to all the children. This is a current issue in todays society with children at a young age being shown television shows that are to mature for them. People in our society are allowing this behavior and it is becoming more and more "right" to show kids these shows. Children are still in an adolescent stage and should not be shown these types of mature shows. Presently, there is an increasing number of kids who are starting to cuss and do drugs at an earlier and earlier age as the years go by because society as deemed it acceptable to reveal these things to them. Their brains are not ready to handle adult things because they do not know the dangers or consequences behind these things. This leads into the issue of parents not being able to talk to their kids about these issues. Their is a lack of control and discipline over their children. Parents need to be able to speak up and lead by example to show their kids what is the right and wrong thing in the increasingly dangerous media in society today. I have a personal experience with seeing this first hand. When I was in middle school, I didn't even know what drugs were but I did start to cuss because of what society showed me through shows. My friends little brother is 6 years younger than me and he is in middle school right now and the things he tells me are remarkable. He tells me about how all the kids are smoking weed and starting to drink excessively at that young of an age. This is all from the shows they are watching and having them show these kids that just because its on TV means its okay. Parents are becoming more lenient and need to step up and protect their kids from todays society. Censorship is a very big issue to protect our future leaders and needs to be better to stop kids from seeing what they should not be.
One text that I remember from high school that is a good example is the "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain. The book was written in a time of racism and vulgar language. The text has a broad range of obscene language that is not suitable for todays society. The text had different meaning back then and now kids take the meaning of these 'cuss' words in different context and use them in the wrong way.
