Unfortunately due to illness, I wasn’t able to make it to class of Tuesday, therefore I wasn’t physically present in class discussions regarding themes for these 3 pieces. However, I decided to focus on the clip of V for Vendetta. In V for Vendetta the theme that stood out the most was the blind of obedience. The government has full control over the people leading to free will not being practiced. A current issue that relates to blind obedience is Fidel Castro and Cuba. Fidel Castro ruled Cuba for nearly 5 decades. Under Castro’s rule, he abolished legal discrimination, provided full employment, advanced education and health care, built new schools and medical facilities. However he also closed down opposition newspapers, jailed thousands of political opponents, limited the land a person could own, and such. Those who followed the rules and regulations of Castro were blinded and obeyed. Those who were opposed got punished, or fled the country due to such communism. A book and now movie that relates to blind obedience is 50 Shades of Grey. Anastasia, such a naïve college student falls in love with Christian Grey, a very young attractive wealthy and successful entrepreneur whom pursues a BDSM lifestyle. Even though Anastasia desires a regular romantic relationship with Christian, she decides to blindly agree to his terms as long as she gets to be with him. Christian is the dominant and Anastasia is the submissive, she follows and obeys all his rules because she is love with him, and is willing to do everything needed in order to be with him.
