Today in class we went over a comic strip, and two videos. One was of the song Handlebars and the other one was on V for Vendetta. All three of these sources have their own theme but also share some common ones. Ill talk mainly about the Comic Strip of calvin and hobbes. This comic strip's theme is that powerful people can do what they want and we cant do anything about it. It reminds me of the industrial revolution where we practically split Europe into sections and all the top countries took over and would take their resources. In the strip these aliens come to earth and drain the ocean, and then the next day they take all the clouds and the air. The people who live their scream out, "Help us, Please Stop" but the alien spaceship just opened its hatch and an alien said, "We're sorry to learn that you soon will be dead, but though you may find this slightly macabre, we prefer your extinction to the loss of our job." This is basically what we did. We wanted to become the most advanced so we went to other countries and took their resources. We were only worried about our success and not their losses. Another thing that this theme ties into is war over resources. We've been in war over oil for too long now and many people's lives have been lost just because the government believes that it will help ultimately them. You don't see the guy who brought the idea of war over there risking his life or any of the men in suits risking their lives. And that is what bothers me the most. They can bring up this idea and then get it approved and send thousands of men to another country and
most men end up losing their lives. The government just worries about themselves and their paychecks in this sense.
