Blog #8

In the TED Talk that we watched in class today, Colin Stokes talks about raising his daughter and the statistics of women who are sexually assaulted. He talks about how people are always teaching their daughters what to do so that they do not get attacked, things to avoid, places not to go, tricks like holding your keys between your fingers while walking in the dark... However, he also mentioned that nobody really teaches their sons not do assault women. This is a major issue right now because when we teach women what to do to 'prevent' being assaulted, we are basically assuming that it is her fault that she gets assaulted. "She didn't do this or that," or "She didn't do enough to protect herself," or even "She was asking for it." Men are taught nothing of the sort.
