Through each of these different texts we can see the theme of blind obedience. We can see in Calvin and Hobbs that there is this idea that a subject can come along and take whatever they want from a less powerful subject simply because they have more power. The more power subject can easily be seen as the government and their lack of concern for the average person. ultimately in the strip the people are not able to fight against the spaceship that is taking their resources and they simply just have to deal with it. I find that we live in a different type of society only because our particular country is split into two groups, one being for small government and one being for large government. Naturally these two group go back in fourth in their power but the power given to both of these groups is determined by the people whom they govern and not the other way around. A good text that supports this is the declaration of independence where it is written that all men are created equally meaning, just because one person is in the government does not entitle them to any greater reward than another. Another famous text that talks about this subject is actually a mockery of the idea that the government is higher than the people around it, animal farm by George Orwell. In this book Pigs manage to take over the rest of the farm and declare themselves more equal (of higher power) than the rest of the farm animals. The purpose of this book was to show how communism is something that does not work. Luckily our country has a long history of fighting against communism because it is against our beliefs. So in other words I would say that our our government is not necessarily taking away from us, but contrarily giving to us.
