In the poem Penelope, written by Dorothy Parker, the subject of gender roles is addressed. In the poem she makes the mans life sound exciting and full of glamour, while the woman's life consists of her staying at home and doing boring everyday duties. Also, in her poem it is the man that gets praised. A current life example of this is when the husband is the one that works and the wife stays home and takes care of the children and does things around the house. Although this does not happen as often as it use to, it still happens in many homes today. The man goes out and makes a living, while the woman stays at home doing things like cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the children. A television show that displays this theme is "I Love Lucy". Lucy, the main character, stays at home all day doing common house hold chores such as cooking and cleaning. In the mean time, her husband is hardly ever home, and is always out working.
