The social issue of masculinity in our culture I think is a big deal and something that needs to be addressed. Men are portrayed as the "protectors" and also have a constant fear of being too feminine. From a young age boys are taught to be tough and not show their emotions so much because they afraid of being too girly. I have seen this first hand, I have a 10 year old brother and he plays with all of the other boys on our street who are all relatively in the same age group. If one of the boys falls and skins a knee or elbow he is usually told by the other boys to "shake it off" or "don't cry just get up and be a man". I think this is an issue because showing emotions doesn't constitute as being girly, it simply shows that they are human and have feeling no matter their gender.
