Blog Post #2

The picture I chose for my blog post is this BOSE noise reduction headphones ad.

Exigence: The purpose of this advertisement is to get consumers to purchase BOSE noise reduction headphones. The ad is implying how great there headphones are by showing a man rowing a boat while unknowingly heading towards the edge of Niagara Falls. Showing how great there product can cancel out sound, even of something as loud as the raging rapids of the 167ft tall waterfall.

Audience: This ad is geared towards anyone who wants good noise reduction headphones without worrying about hearing outside distractions, but just want quality sound. Anyone who can afford to purchase these headphones are there audience regardless of gender or age, making there consumer target pretty vast, which is a very great tactic resulting in them not limiting themselves to any particular group of consumers.

Constraints: Being that there are no words in the ad other than "BOSE noise reduction headphones". This ad relies on conveying it's message very simply without using any text, but from letting the picture speak for itself. Making it a lot more convenient and easier for consumers to understand in a faster period of time. Rather than making the viewers sit and read text to understand what they are trying to sell.

  1. I agree with everything you stated in this, and would like to add that based on our last reading, this picture clearly uses pathos in a clever way. The man is in a very dangerous situation, and if this were a video, he would inevitably fall down from a 167ft height. However, since this is a photo, you get to appreciate the moment, rather than freak out for this man's life, and see it as the humorous idea of feeling so isolated with your music that nothing else matters.

  2. I really liked the image you used, and I think another constraint can be for some people that don't get the message right away since it has no text and they don't receive the message the ad is trying to put out there.
